Destiny’s Child Music Review

Friendship Month | Flaming Word Ministry

It may seem odd am starting with the band which replaced two members they had known since childhood by putting two other members in a music video……Beyonce is all business but they are my first group about friendship because the final trio went through it all and Beyonce never forgot them on her way to the top when she bought them back for that Superbowl performance. Here is a song from each album that show girl group friendships at the best…..everything from the cattiness of previous memebrs to the strong formation as a trio that we came to love.

First though am just going to point out that survivor turns 20 next year and every track was written and produced by Beyonce who was only 20 at the time. Mind Blowing!!

Jumpin Jumpin – from Writing On The Wall (1999)

“Last weekend you stayed at home, Alone and lonely, Couldn’t find your man, He was chillin’ with his homies, This weekend you goin’ out, If he try to stop you, you goin’ off.”

Basically girl, get a life and stop being so dependent on a man. In a relationship, everyone needs time to themselves, whether that be staying at home with a glass of wine and watching some cheesy rom com or going out on the town with the ladies. If you rely on your other half to provide all of your social fulfillment, you’re always going to be miserable. You need to go out and have some time just being you.

Survivor – from Survivor (2001)

“Thought that I’d be helpless without you, but I’m smarter
You thought that I’d be stressed without you, but I’m chillin’
You thought I wouldn’t sell without you, sold 9 million”

Sorry pass members of Destiny Child they are right they still sold 9 million copies of writing on the wall even when you left and they survived like no other group with survivor which went on to be the best selling album in the UK and the USA that year.

Girl – from Destiny’s Child (2005)

“Take a minute girl come sit down
And tell us what’s been happening
In your face I can see the pain
Don’t you try to convince us that you’re happy”

The fact that the girls wrote this after a conversation the girls had with Kelly about how she was in an abusive relationship really shows girl friendships at their best. Whatever you say about the early days of Destiny’s child the trio in the end they formed a strong friendship through thick and thin.
